Can bamboo shades be cut?
Yes they can. As you may or may not know, all our products are custom made to fit. Cutting bamboo shades involves first measuring the window and confirming the desired size of the shade. Then the bamboo gets rolled up evenly, secured with a rubber band and the size is marked. Then the material is cut on both sides to fit the new desired size. The strings and cords are also cut and sealed afterward to match the new shade's size. If you want to have an existing window covering adjusted, consider letting us know to avoid accidentally damaging if you attempt the DIY approach.
How do I clean aluminum blinds?
Cleaning aluminum window treatments is very easy because they're usually sturdier and more durable than other types of blinds. You can clean the dust off them with a dry rag, and for extra dirty blinds, spray soapy warm water and carefully wipe them down, making sure not to bend the slats. If they are still not clean enough, some people even take them off the window and soak them in a bathtub filled with either soapy water or a mixture of detergent for about 20 minutes. Scrub off the dirt, wash in clean water and leave to air dry. Once dry they can be hung back.
Vertical blinds vs horizontal – which is better?
Vertical blinds are usually preferred for larger windows or for glass doors, as their build makes them more suitable to larger apertures. As far as sunlight and UV blocking, both vertical and horizontal blinds can do a good job with that, but the latter tend to be better at this. They're also better if you're looking for more privacy, as vertical blinds tend to let a minimal amount of sunlight through.
